Istanbul closes schools amid heavy rain

In-person education at all public and private educational institutions across Istanbul, Turkiye, has been suspended for Thursday, October 15, due to adverse weather conditions.

Axar.az reports, citing the Istanbul Governor’s Office announcement, that the measure was taken as heavy rainfall continued to disrupt daily life and transportation across the city.

Public employees who are pregnant, disabled, veterans or disabled veterans will also be granted administrative leave on Thursday. The measure will additionally cover female public employees with children under the age of eight, except those working in healthcare, security and emergency response units. Mothers of children under eight with disabilities will be eligible for leave regardless of their occupational group.

Meanwhile, motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles have been banned from traffic across Istanbul from 9 p.m. on October 14 until further notice from the governor’s office.
