Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has ordered the opening of the Rafah border checkpoint on the border with Gaza for three days.

Axar.az reports that, the border checkpoint, which was closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been reopened to reunite Palestinian families who have been separated for more than five months. From today until August 17, they will be able to move to Palestine and vice versa.

The governor of Egypt's Northern Sinai province, which borders the Gaza Strip, will work with the Ministry of Health to ensure that people entering the country are tested for COVID-19, wear protective masks and observe social distance.

In a statement, Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Diab al-Loh thanked President Abdel Fattah Sisi for reuniting Palestinian families and providing them with shelter in the border area for a long time.
