Russians arrived, we agreed with Baku - Harutiunyan

Allegations that the country lost its sovereignty due to the deployment of Russian border guards on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border are not true.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutiunyan.

"The loss of sovereignty can only be discussed if security is not ensured. The steps were taken today strengthen the security and sovereignty of the state," he said.

Harutiunyan said that Russian border guards were stationed on part of the Gorus-Gafan highway under an agreement with Russia. He said an agreement had been reached with Azerbaijan and that there would be no army units on the road.
