Karabakh statement from the Council of Europe

We always need to talk to 47 or more members of our family, sometimes both. Dialogue with countries is one of the basic principles of our organization. It is very important to establish a dialogue in difficult times, especially in situations such as the crisis in and around Karabakh. We did our best to resolve the conflict. We welcome the declaration of peace on the cessation of hostilities in Karabakh, signed in November last year.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Council of Europe Secretary General Maria Pejcinovic-Buric during her speech at the PACE spring session.

The Secretary General said:

"After the ceasefire, we managed to establish a dialogue with official Baku and Yerevan. After the ceasefire enters into force, the main issue is to comply with the Declaration and work on a final peace agreement. But the most important thing for the final peace is to build trust between the parties. Unfortunately, a number of aggressive speeches and incidents have a negative impact on this process.

Maria Pejcinovic-Buric stressed that their proposals for a lasting peace are ready for both sides.
