If Ukraine does not receive a guarantee of membership and transition at the NATO summit, the alliance member countries can send troops to Ukraine.
Axar.az reports that former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said this.
He said that if NATO fails to take steps regarding Ukraine's membership at the Vilnius summit or to take a decision on guaranteeing its security, some countries may act individually:
"Poland is closely involved in providing concrete assistance to Ukraine. I do not exclude that Poland will do more in this context at the national level, followed by the Baltic countries. It is possible to send troops to Ukraine. If Ukraine gets nothing in Vilnius, Poland will seriously consider forming a coalition. It would be completely legal for Ukraine to ask for such military assistance."
