Kazakhstani ambassador to continue wearing chapan

According to Turkist, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Austria, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the OSCE, H.E. Mr. Kairat Satybay, told Kazakhstani journalists how his clothes are being received abroad:

“I receive big support not only from my colleagues, but also from foreign ambassadors. And I am going to continue this tradition where it is appropriate. It doesn’t mean that I have to walk in chapan only, but I can use it where protocol allows.”

The diplomat says, he doesn’t know who of his colleagues also use national costumes on official meetings abroad, but he heard that Oljas Suleymenov used to wear it when he was an ambassador to Malta.

“When you show up in some kind of an adopted version [edit: of national constume], foreigners support it. For instance, in Austria people are walking in their national costumes with big pleasure and not only on some special days.”
