IYI Party’s former chairperson and founder, Meral Akşener, has not reacted to the arrest and dismissal of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on corruption charges.

Axar.az reports that Akşener’s silence has been noticeable since Imamoğlu was detained on March 19 and later officially arrested on March 23.

Turkish media reports that the reason behind Akşener’s lack of support for Imamoğlu, whom she once called “my son,” remains unclear.

It should be noted that IYI Party’s current chairperson, Müsavat Dervişoğlu, has openly supported Imamoğlu, visiting both Saraçhane and the Istanbul courthouse.
