The Liberty Justice Center has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of International Trade challenging former President Donald Trump's tariffs, claiming he exceeded his authority.

Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that representing five small U.S. businesses affected by the tariffs, the group argues that only Congress has the constitutional power to impose taxes, including tariffs.

The suit targets Trump’s April 2 “Liberation Day” tariffs and duties on Chinese imports.

The administration defended the tariffs as necessary to address trade imbalances and protect American workers.

However, the lawsuit contends that Trump misused the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which has never before been used to justify tariffs. A similar legal challenge is also underway in Florida federal court.
