EU ends Czech exemption for Russian oil imports

The European Union has revoked the exemption allowing the Czech Republic to import oil from Russia.

Axar.az reports that this was stated in the announcement regarding the EU Council’s 18th sanctions package against Russia.

It should be noted that the oil was delivered to Prague via the “Druzhba” pipeline. On January 15, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala had announced that the country was ready to completely abandon Russian oil.

In 2024, 42% of the oil received by the Czech Republic came through Russia’s Druzhba pipeline.
