Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna this week have been canceled after authorities arrested two suspects for allegedly plotting a terror attack. Barracuda Music announced the cancellation, emphasizing the decision was made to ensure everyone's safety and that all tickets would be automatically refunded. The arrests included a 19-year-old Austrian citizen and a second suspect, who were both taken into custody on Wednesday.
Axar.az reports that according to Franz Ruf, the director-general for public safety in the Ministry of the Interior, the suspects had radicalized online and the 19-year-old had pledged allegiance to ISIS in early July. The planned attack specifically targeted Swift's Vienna concert. Information from U.S. intelligence, shared with Austrian authorities and Europol, revealed the suspects' connection to ISIS-K through the messaging app Telegram.
Despite increased security plans for the concerts, which were expected to attract tens of thousands of fans, investigators found explosive precursor chemicals indicating serious planning. They are also reviewing surveillance footage to see if the suspects had conducted reconnaissance at the concert site or other potential targets. Swift’s "Eras Tour," which began in March 2023 and has been highly successful, will now miss its Vienna stops, with the tour set to conclude in Vancouver, Canada, on December 8.
