Anniversary of prominent Azerbaijani theater and cinema figure, late actor Fazil Salayev is marked on September 1.

The actor's 85 anniversary is being celebrated today.

Fazil Salayev was born on September 1, 1931 in Baku to the family of Idris Salayev. They are from South Azerbaijan.

However,Fazil Salayev played his first role in his 32, he became popular as a film actor. Director Hasan Seyidbeyli invites him to play an episodic role in 'Möcüzələr adası' (Island of Miracles) film. Only after a year, the actor plays the role of reporter in 'Ulduz' film, directed by Agharza Guliyev. Then he took role of Mehdi in 'Alma almaya bənzər' (Apple Looks like an Apple), Miggi in 'Bizim Cəbiş müəllim' (Our Teacher Jabish), Fazil in 'Bir cənub şəhərində' (In a Southern City), Gulamali in 'Dərviş Parisi partladır' (Darvish blasts Paris).

He made frequent sketches at 'Komediyalar aləminə səyahət' (Travel to the World of Comedy) telecast.

The actor died on June 20, 1976, aged 44.
