An accident on a popular Swiss tourist railway route left nearly 30 people injured on Monday at the Andermatt station, a police spokeswoman said.

Axar.az reports citing Reuters that the crash on the popular Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn line took place during a maneuver to bring the engine from the rear to the front of the train.

About 100 people were on board at the time of the accident.

The nationalities of the injured were not immediately available.

Spokesman Jan Baerwalde of train service operator Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn said authorities were investigating the cause of the crash.

Spokeswoman Sonja Aschwanden of the Uri cantonal police said she did not have any immediate information about the type of injuries or material damage.

In 2010, a train on the Glacier Express service that is part of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn derailed due to speeding. A Japanese woman died and 40 passengers were injured.
