On September 1, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, met with Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Tianjin, China.

Axar.az informs Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude on behalf of the Pakistani people and government for Azerbaijan’s political support and solidarity during India’s military aggression against Pakistan in April-May this year.

President Ilham Aliyev, emphasizing the brotherly ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, congratulated Pakistan on its victory over India. He noted that, in response to Azerbaijan’s support, India has attempted to retaliate against Azerbaijan in international organizations, but stressed that this holds no significance for Azerbaijan, as brotherly relations take precedence above all.

Prime Minister Sharif fondly recalled his visits to Azerbaijan and highlighted the importance of the trilateral meeting held in Lachin involving Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Pakistan. President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, noted that steps are being taken to implement the issues discussed in the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Pakistan trilateral format.

The Pakistani Prime Minister congratulated the Azerbaijani leader on the progress achieved in normalizing relations and advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, describing it as a historic milestone.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked him for the congratulations and underscored the significance of these achievements for ensuring lasting peace in the region.

The head of state also highlighted the importance of his visit to Washington for the development of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations, particularly emphasizing the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in these processes.

The meeting addressed the activities of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission, with discussions focused on advancing economic and trade relations in line with the spirit of the existing political ties. Additional instructions were given to government officials to further these efforts. The implementation of a project in Pakistan modeled on Azerbaijan’s “ASAN Khidmet” was recognized as a positive step.
