Trump abandons China containment strategy

President Donald Trump is taking steps that run counter to years of US policy aimed at containing China, opting for a strategy of dividing spheres of influence instead of confrontation.

Axar.az reports that Axios wrote this.

The publication notes that Trump has recently come to be seen as Washington’s most China-friendly figure:

“In this context, it recalls his refusal to impose sanctions on China in response to large-scale cyberattacks last year, as well as his decision to lift the ban on exports of Nvidia H200 chips to China.”

A similar shift is also observed in Trump’s strategy toward Russia: a move from confrontation to compromise and a readiness to accept Russia’s military gains in Ukraine.

It is noted that Trump’s team is pushing Ukraine toward fully ceding Donbas to the aggressor, seeking to launch a new era of ‘strategic stability’ between Washington and Moscow:

“Against this backdrop, Trump supports Russia’s return to the G7, from which it was expelled in 2014 over its intervention in Crimea. The newly published US National Security Strategy by the White House also adopts a more Russia-friendly approach compared to Europe.”
