During President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Uzbekistan today, the presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed the “Treaty on Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
Axar.az reports that under the treaty, the two countries, guided by the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, base their relations on eternal friendship, mutual trust, strategic partnership and alliance, and support each other in choosing development paths and models in line with their national realities.
Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan also undertake not to participate in any blocs or alliances that harm the sovereignty, security or territorial integrity of the other party. They also pledge not to allow their territories to be used by third countries to undermine the sovereignty, security or territorial integrity of the other party, or for organizations and groups that threaten the other party’s sovereignty, security or territorial integrity to be established or operate on their territory.
In addition, the parties undertake to cooperate in the following areas:
- reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the central role of the United Nations in preventing and resolving conflicts and addressing regional and global security challenges;
- expanding ties between the parliaments of the two countries, strengthening the social and public foundation for friendship between their peoples, and enhancing legal cooperation in all areas;
- developing trade, economic and investment cooperation based on equality and mutual benefit, and supporting joint projects in energy, transport and logistics, digital development, agriculture, the green and digital economy, e-commerce, information and communications technologies, space technologies and other areas of mutual interest;
- creating the necessary conditions to further strengthen interconnected transport systems aimed at ensuring convenient and mutually beneficial transportation of goods and passengers and increasing the transit potential of transport corridors;
- comprehensively supporting the preservation of the spiritual, educational and cultural ties between the peoples of the two countries and developing exchanges and cooperation in science, education, healthcare, culture, cultural heritage, youth affairs, tourism, sports and other areas of mutual interest;
- creating conditions for the mutual teaching of the Azerbaijani and Uzbek languages, developing direct cooperation between scientific and educational institutions, and implementing joint projects;
- supporting the development of interregional cooperation and encouraging the establishment of partnerships between cities and regions;
- promoting cooperation to advance the tourism potential of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan and increase awareness of their tourism products.
