In Baku, the next consular consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Axar.az reports that according to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, head of the Consular Department, while the Iranian delegation was led by Alireza Mahmoudi, head of the Consular Department.
During the consular consultations, the Iranian delegation was received by Samir Sharifov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, and discussions were held regarding the current status of cooperation between the two countries and directions for its development.
Officials from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Prosecutor General's Office, State Customs Committee, and State Border Service participated in the consultations.
The talks covered the prospects for developing bilateral relations in the consular sphere, protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens of both countries, providing necessary consular and legal assistance to citizens facing difficulties in certain areas, the extradition of individuals wanted internationally, and the repatriation of those sentenced to imprisonment to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home countries.
Additionally, the consultations addressed issues of cooperation between the internal affairs, border, and customs agencies of Azerbaijan and Iran.
