Azerbaijan's selection as the host of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in 2024 is fully justified, as climate issues should be discussed in oil-producing countries.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Boris Titov, the Special Representative of the President of Russia for relations with international organizations to achieve sustainable development goals, during his speech at COP29.

"Greta Thunberg does not understand the issue of location selection for climate discussions. Greta is far from economics, and therefore, she does not properly assess the real balance of needs and opportunities. Fossil resources will continue to play their global role for a long time, and abandoning them at all costs right now, to put it mildly is ineffective. At the same time, I fully agree with President Ilham Aliyev's surprise at the criticisms directed at the country regarding oil. This is truly a gift from nature," Titov said.

It is worth noting that Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg and the Caucasus Feminist Anti-War Movement held a protest in the center of Tbilisi against COP29.
