On November 18, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA), Pere Juan Pons Sampietro, who visited our country within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Axar.az reports that according to the information given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the issues on the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the OSCE, the regional situation, as well as the prospects of cooperation within the framework of COP29 were discussed at the meeting.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the presence of intensive dialogue between our country and the OSCE PA, parliamentary diplomacy, including mutual visits in this context, are important in terms of discussing issues of common interest.
It was stated that the threat of climate change threatens human security and sustainable development, strengthening efforts to eliminate the consequences of climate change observed in our region and the world, and supporting the most vulnerable groups in this direction is the priority of our COP29 presidency.
It was noted that a number of successes achieved in the negotiation process under our chairmanship, especially the agreement of the agenda of the session from the first day, the agreement on Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, and the increase of the climate finance commitment by financial institutions from 75 billion to 170 billion US dollars on an annual basis, were noted as a source of satisfaction.
The other side was also informed about the history of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the results of the military occupation of Armenia, the current situation and realities in the region during the post-conflict period, as well as the progress of the regional peace process.
The vice-president congratulated our country on the occasion of the COP29 presidency and wished success in the presidency. It was brought to the attention that efforts to combat climate change within the framework of the OSCE are important.
During the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
