Today, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, Valentina Matviyenko, who is on an official visit to our country.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.

First, there was a one-on-one meeting between the parties. At the end of the meeting, Valentina Matviyenko presented the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, with the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation.

Then the meeting continued with the participation of delegations. The meeting touched upon issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia in political, economic, humanitarian, and other fields.

Noting the role of relations between our parliaments, Sahiba Gafarova expressed her views on various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and touched upon the importance of the activities of members of parliament in this context. The role of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Commission of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was emphasized.

Valentina Matviyenko noted with satisfaction her meeting with President Ilham Aliyev and the discussions held. He also spoke about the exchange of views with First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva on all aspects of humanitarian relations.

The Chairman of the Federation Council noted that the 100th anniversary of the outstanding political and statesman Heydar Aliyev was widely celebrated in Russia, and emphasized the unparalleled services of this great personality to the Azerbaijani state and people.

Valentina Matviyenko also noted the growing role of Azerbaijan at the international level under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan successfully implements international events, and forums promoting intercultural dialogue, as well as major economic projects. He emphasized the successful implementation of COP29, which, despite all the pressures, secured a large number of participants and achieved important results, and conveyed his congratulations. In particular, he spoke about the importance of the Parliamentary Meeting organized within the framework of COP29.

The meeting also exchanged views on other topics of mutual interest.
