The U.S. and its European allies, including France, Britain, and Germany, are finalizing a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that if Russia rejects the proposal, new sanctions will be imposed on Moscow.
Ukraine has expressed readiness to accept the offer, while Russia has declared a temporary three-day ceasefire.
According to a French diplomatic source, "We're not completely with a finalised project, but we hope that we're at a moment of convergence." The source added, "We are reaching a point where we will not wait for a formal response from Moscow to a joint proposal to declare this ceasefire."
France, Britain, and Germany have been coordinating closely with the U.S., although they have made counterproposals in recent weeks regarding territorial issues and sanctions. "What could happen in the coming hours and days, there could be an announcement of a ceasefire either of 30 days or compartmentalized, which is still being discussed," the source noted.
Discussions are ongoing about whether to announce the ceasefire unilaterally or give Russia a short response time. "We felt in the discussions with the Americans a certain irritation towards the Russian posture, the lack of reactivity and seriousness in its responses to what was proposed before," the source said. A meeting of Ukraine's closest allies is scheduled for Saturday to discuss the proposal further.
