The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has issued a ruling against France.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by the French media.

It was noted that in 2011, French citizen Karim Touili was stopped and searched by police three times within ten days. A similar situation was experienced by several other individuals living in the city of Besançon. After his claims were not fully upheld in local courts, Karim Touili took the case to the ECHR.

In its ruling, the court classified the police’s actions as ethnic discrimination. It was stated that identity checks based on ethnic background by police are not rare, and in some cases, individuals are subjected to verbal abuse during such checks.

Based on the ECHR ruling, the French government must pay the claimant €3,000 in moral damages.
