"We have come together at a time when more than 3 billion people lack decent and affordable housing, and this number continues to rise. The 'Baku Urban Award' was established precisely to fill this gap. We firmly believe that this is a legacy project," said Anar Guliyev, the National Coordinator of WUF13 and Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, during an event titled " The Baku Urban Award: Scaling Housing Solutions for Global Impact " at WUF13.
Axar.az informs according to him, detailed information regarding the structure and other requirements of the award will be provided by colleagues at UN-Habitat. "The award is designed to link three factors that today often operate in isolation from one another: practice – real, workable solutions already developed by mayors and professionals; knowledge – rigorous documentation of why these solutions work; and policy – the application of these lessons by governments, international bodies, and the Global Urban Agenda itself. Each cycle of the award will not simply end with a ceremony; it will continue through active support for learning, capacity building, and replication. The award does not aim merely to applaud solutions, but to scale them up.
A global award is only as valuable as the credibility behind it. The 'Baku Urban Award' will be evaluated by an independent, internationally recognized jury representing various regions of the world, comprising leading authorities in architecture, urban planning, housing finance, climate science, and civil society. The full panel will be announced in due course," the National Coordinator added.
