ANAMA highlights global mine threat at WUF13

Mine contamination is not only a problem in Azerbaijan but also in several countries around the world, slowing down reconstruction, limiting development opportunities, and putting civilian safety at risk.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), during an event titled “Post-Conflict Urban Reconstruction: The Critical Role of Humanitarian Mine Action” held at the Azerbaijan Pavilion within the framework of World Urban Forum 13 in Baku.

He said the platform is especially important, stressing that solving the mine problem cannot be done through national efforts alone and requires sustained international support, partnerships, innovative approaches, and sharing of best practices.

Suleymanov noted that since the end of the 2020 Patriotic War, Azerbaijan has taken large-scale steps to address the issue. Since November 2020, more than 270,000 hectares of land have been cleared, and over 250,000 mines and unexploded ordnance have been detected and neutralized.
