In January–March of this year, 41,941 tourists from European countries visited Azerbaijan.
Axar.az reports, citing official statistics, that this is 15% higher than in the same period last year.
During the reporting period, 20,731 tourists arrived from Eastern European countries, up 3.5% year-on-year.
Among Eastern European countries, Ukraine accounted for the largest number of visitors — 7,688 people, a slight 0.04% decrease compared to the previous year.
This was followed by Belarus (4,208, -14.8%), Poland (2,153, +38.9%), Moldova (1,042, +2.5%), Hungary (970, +59.8%), Romania (694, +16.4%), the Czech Republic (680, +8.8%), Lithuania (636, +39.5%), Serbia (451, +1.3%), Slovakia (372, +27.8%), Latvia (359, +4.4%), Bulgaria (331, -16.2%), Croatia (285, +50%), Estonia (284, +3.3%), Slovenia (151, +20.8%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (118, -7.1%), Cyprus (94, +42.4%), North Macedonia (83, -14.4%), Albania (75, +7.1%), and Montenegro (57, -57.1%).
Over the three-month period, 21,210 tourists arrived from Western European countries, a 29% increase compared to the same period last year.
The United Kingdom led the region with 5,668 visitors, up 33.7% year-on-year.
Other arrivals included Germany (5,024, +76.5%), Italy (2,933, +21.1%), France (1,415, +14.4%), Spain (1,245, -6.7%), the Netherlands (867, -0.9%), Belgium (653, +38.3%), Portugal (550, +17%), Austria (499, +29.3%), Sweden (421, +8.2%), Switzerland (387, +13.5%), Greece (386, +2.1%), Ireland (345, +24.5%), Norway (288, +35.8%), Denmark (235, +33.5%), Malta (72, -5.3%), Finland (110, -35.7%), Luxembourg (67, -35.6%), Iceland (35, +20.7%), and Andorra (10, 2.5 times more).
Overall, Azerbaijan welcomed 484,400 foreigners and stateless persons from 172 countries, which is 4.7% fewer compared to the same period last year.
