The power crisis in the country reached its climax in June 1993, plunging the republic into chaos and anarchy. The confrontation, which almost escalated into a civil war, became not only a direct threat to the country’s independence but also to the existence as a state.

All the segments of Azerbaijani society were convinced that Heydar Aliyev was the sole individual capable of leading the recently restored independent country out of the difficult situation it had found itself in. Thus, on June 9, 1993, the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, in response to the call of the people, returned to Baku and saved Azerbaijan from calamities and the prospect of an even more dire fate than that of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. This day literally became a turning point in the destiny of the country, marking an important step towards great salvation.

On June 15, 1993, Heydar Aliyev was elected Chairman of the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan and, despite significant risks, took on the mission of saving the people. On that day, independent Azerbaijan embarked on its path of development, a policy that has been successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. As a result, Azerbaijani territories were liberated from Armenian occupation by Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, putting an end to the 30-year longing for our homeland. For this reason, it can confidently be said that today's strong Azerbaijan is the legacy of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, bequeathed to future generations.

If only a few years ago, a small number of countries supported Azerbaijan's just voice, now there is widespread respect for Azerbaijan, the country that has created new geopolitical realities in the region, and the number of those supporting the country has increased. Today, leading global circles openly acknowledge that Azerbaijan, in addition to becoming the strongest country in the region, is gaining political weight on the global stage day by day.
