Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has signed a law introducing additional measures aimed at strengthening the fight against illegal migration.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, under the document, the period for mandatory medical examinations for migrants after entering Russia has been reduced from 90 days to 30 days.

In addition, foreign nationals staying in the country for more than 30 days will be required to undergo annual medical examinations. These checks are intended to confirm the absence of dangerous infectious diseases, HIV infection, and drug use.

The costs of medical examinations will be covered by migrants themselves or their employers. The law also prohibits intermediaries from organizing medical examinations, stating that only authorized medical institutions will be allowed to conduct them.

Mandatory medical examinations will become a required condition for obtaining temporary residence permits, work permits, and renewing work permits.

The law will come into force on September 1, 2026.

It is also noted that Russia has significantly increased fees related to residence and work permits for migrants.
