28 hydropower plants will be built in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur.

Axar.az reports that this was mentioned in the "National Strategy for Efficient Use of Water Resources".

It is reported that the National Strategy covers the years 2024-2040 and provides measures in the field of effective use, management and pollution prevention of water resources in the country, desalination of sea water, modernization of irrigation systems, as well as the use of water resources of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur economic regions.

According to the strategy, rational use of water resources and hydropower potential of Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions will be ensured by the application of "smart water" systems.

After evaluating the hydropower potential of surface water, hydroelectric power stations, including the capacity of water management facilities, will be created, and a compact power station will be created.

Health, coastal and water tourism opportunities will be assessed, further improvement of drinking water supply to the population, meeting the demand for irrigation water of agricultural fields and efficient use of the potential of water resources will enable inter-basin water transfer. Thus, more than 300 thousand hectares of land in economic regions will be provided with irrigation water.
