The Sabail District Court in Baku has issued a decision regarding the ongoing criminal case against Ruben Vardanyan, who is currently held by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that the court has extended Vardanyan's detention period.

The Armenian citizen, born in 1968, is facing serious suspicions of committing criminal acts under the Azerbaijani Criminal Code, including Article 214-1 (financing terrorism), Article 279.3 (participation in the creation and activities of armed formations not envisaged by legislation), and Article 318.1 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan).

It is noteworthy that several international organizations and foreign media outlets have previously exposed various money laundering mechanisms associated with Vardanyan, who is known as the only billionaire from Armenia. He renounced his Russian citizenship to adopt Armenian citizenship and served as the so-called "Minister of State" for the self-proclaimed "Republic of Artsakh."
