The AZAL Embraer ERJ-190 aircraft flying on the Baku-Grozny route encountered severe GPS jamming.
Axar.az reports that this information was shared on the "Flightradar" global flight tracking service's X page.
"Flight J28243 took off at 03:55 (Baku time 07:55) from Baku and headed towards Grozny. The aircraft faced severe GPS jamming, which caused it to transmit incorrect ADS-B data. At 04:40 (Baku time 08:40), we lost the ADS-B signal. We regained the ADS-B signal at 06:07 (Baku time 10:07) and lost it again at 06:28 (Baku time 10:28) before the crash," the report states.
According to "Tengrinews," the AZAL aircraft that crashed made an emergency crash landing request at 11:20 Aktau time (10:20 Baku time).
"Kazinform" reported, citing the Mangistau regional Health Department, that the emergency crash landing request came in at 10:58 (Baku time 09:58).
The latest footage shows the AZAL plane circling near Aktau port, attempting to land, but failing, and ultimately crashing onto the shore.
It is noted that the aircraft flying from Baku to Grozny was initially diverted to Makhachkala due to fog, and later redirected to Aktau. "Rosaviatsiya" stated that after the plane collided with a flock of birds, the captain chose Aktau port.
The aircraft had 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board. According to preliminary information, 28 people survived.
