Vučić offers talks to protest leaders

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has invited the participants of the protests held in the country for several days to talks.

Axar.az reports that Aleksandar Vučić invited the board of rectors of the University of Belgrade to a meeting on February 5.

“If students and professors believe that some of their demands have not been met or have not been fully met, then dialogue is necessary, as is the case with all other issues that may be important for a way out of the current situation,” Vučić stressed.

It should be noted that tensions have increased in the country after the accident at the railway station in Novi Sad on November 1 last year, which resulted in the death of 15 people and serious injuries to two others. Over the past few days, thousands of people have held protests in both the capital Belgrade and the country's second-largest city, Novi Sad. The demonstrators, mainly students, blocked the bridges over the Danube River that run through the city and gathered in the city square.

Aleksandar Vucic has pardoned all the protesters in recent days, including 13 people detained during the protest in Belgrade.
