South Azerbaijan’s Tractor SC is all but certain to compete in the elite stage of the AFC Champions League next season.
Axar.az reports that the suspension of the Iranian league and the AFC’s request for the Iranian Football Federation to urgently submit the list of clubs qualified for continental competitions have accelerated the process.
The Tabriz-based club currently sits second in the standings with 39 points after the Iranian Pro League was halted for more than 40 days due to the war situation. Based on the current table, Tractor has secured qualification for the tournament.
Esteghlal FC leads the league with 41 points, while Tractor and Sepahan SC are tied on 39 points in second and third place.
According to Iranian media, Tractor’s participation in the elite stage is virtually confirmed after obtaining a professional license.
Sepahan’s fate will depend on the final licensing decision.
The Iranian Pro League champion and final standings are expected to be determined after the remaining matches are played following the World Cup.
Overall, Iran will be represented by three clubs in Asian competitions: two in the AFC Champions League Elite and one in the AFC Champions League Two.
