Neuer becomes World Cup record goalkeeper

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has set a new World Cup record after making his 21st tournament appearance in the match against Cote d’Ivoire.

Axar.az reports, citing German media, the 40-year-old surpassed former France captain Hugo Lloris to become the goalkeeper with the most World Cup appearances.

Neuer is also the only goalkeeper among the top four record holders to have played at five World Cups.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann praised Neuer’s experience, saying: “He gives us a lot of calmness and has great experience — especially the younger players benefit from that.”

Neuer has now made 126 appearances for Germany, more than any other goalkeeper, and has featured in 41 major tournament matches, including 21 World Cup and 20 European Championship games.

Only Miroslav Klose (24) and Lothar Matthäus (25) have more World Cup appearances for Germany.
