Deschamps sets World Cup coaching record

France head coach Didier Deschamps has set a new FIFA World Cup record.

Axar.az reports that Deschamps' side defeated Sweden in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The victory was Deschamps' 17th as a head coach at the World Cup, making him the most successful coach in tournament history by number of wins. He surpassed former Germany coach Helmut Schön, who had recorded 16 World Cup victories.

The 57-year-old has been in charge of France since 2012. Under his leadership, France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup and finished runners-up at the 2022 tournament.
