Azerbaijan's freestyle wrestling team has achieved a historic success at the U-20 European Championships in Skopje, North Macedonia.

Axar.az reports that the national team won two gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, collecting 170 points to finish second in the team standings behind Russia (194 points).

Armenia (118 points) placed third.

With this result, Azerbaijan's U-20 team set two national records, achieving its highest-ever medal haul and best-ever points total at the tournament.

Under the guidance of head coach Ashraf Aliyev and coaches Rovshan Hajiyev, Nazim Alijanov, and Asgarkhan Novruzov, Haji Karimov (70 kg) and Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) won gold medals, Jamal Abbasov (61 kg) and Nurlan Agazade (74 kg) took silver, while Muhammad Ismayilov (57 kg), Bashir Verdiyev (65 kg), Muhammad Abbaszade (86 kg), and Farhad Suleymanli (97 kg) earned bronze medals.
