Mahir Emreli to continue career in Poland

Azerbaijan national team forward Mahir Emreli is set to continue his career in Poland.

Axar.az reports that the 28-year-old will join Polish club Rakow. He will move to the Ekstraklasa side on a one-year loan deal from German club Kaiserslautern, where he is under contract.

Emreli is currently in Poland with his agent and will officially complete the transfer after undergoing a medical examination.

Rakow will represent Poland in the 2026/27 UEFA Conference League. However, as the deal has not yet been finalized, Emreli was not included in the squad submitted to UEFA for the club's second qualifying round matches against Malta's Valletta. If Rakow advances to the next round, he could still feature in the competition.

Notably, the winner of the Rakow-Valletta tie will be a potential opponent for Azerbaijani clubs Neftchi or Zira in the third qualifying round.

Rakow will become Emreli's second club in Poland. He previously played for Legia Warsaw during the 2021/22 season, but his spell at the club ended prematurely after fans attacked the team bus.

Rakow is also a familiar opponent for Azerbaijani football. In the 2023/24 season, the Polish side eliminated Qarabag in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
