Cabo Verde defender Sidny Lopes Cabral has won the Hyundai Goal of the Tournament award for his spectacular strike against Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Axar.az reports, citing FIFA, that Lopes Cabral's curling effort in Cabo Verde's Round of 32 clash with Argentina was voted the tournament's best goal, finishing ahead of Uzbekistan's Eldor Shomurodov and Haiti's Wilson Isidor.

The 23-year-old scored after cutting inside before curling a right-footed shot into the top corner past Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in an extra-time thriller that Cabo Verde eventually lost 3-2.

Reflecting on the goal, Lopes Cabral said: "The moment I dribbled past my opponent, I saw an opening and thought, 'Let's have a go.' I aimed for the top corner and struck the ball really well."

He added: "When I looked up and saw it heading for that top corner, I thought, 'What the hell did I just do?' I couldn't believe it."

Lopes Cabral also revealed that Brazil and Real Madrid legend Marcelo personally congratulated him after the match, telling him he had voted for the strike as the tournament's best goal.

The award caps a remarkable rise for Lopes Cabral, who was playing in Germany's fifth division just three years ago before emerging as one of the breakout stars of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
