Luis Figo calls on FIFA President Infantino to resign

Former Portugal national team captain and football legend Luis Figo has called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down.

Axar.az reports that Figo made the call in a post on his X account, accusing Infantino of damaging the reputation of the FIFA presidency.

“Infantino has debased the office that he promised to elevate. He has lied, deceived and tried to feather his own nest at the expense of the game he is supposed to serve,” Figo wrote.

“He has lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers, the vast majority of people who devote their lives to this sport and even, it would seem, the FIFA Peace Prize winner," he added.

“It is too late to save his dignity but it is not too late to save football. He should go. Now,” he continued.

Pressure on Gianni Infantino has increased in recent days. He was forced to abandon plans to generate billions of dollars in revenue through the possible sale of parts of FIFA’s commercial rights for tournaments such as the World Cup following widespread criticism and protests.
