Johor Darul Ta’zim set new world record in domestic league

Malaysia's Johor Darul Ta'zim, the club of former Azerbaijani national team member Eddie Israfilov and ex-Qarabag defender Kevin Medina, has set a world record for the most consecutive unbeaten matches in a domestic league.

Axar.az reports that the team defeated Kuching 3:0 in the first round of the new season. With this, Johor Darul Ta'zim extended their unbeaten league streak to 109 matches.

Medina started in the lineup for this game, while Eddie remained on the bench throughout.

This was Medina's debut match for his new club.

It should be noted that the Malaysian side has surpassed the record of Côte d'Ivoire's ASEC Mimosas, who went unbeaten in 108 consecutive domestic league matches from 1989 to 1994. Johor Darul Ta'zim had matched that figure in the final game of last season. The team has won the Malaysian title for the past four seasons and has not lost a league match since April 2021.
