Turkish specialist Gokhan Edman has been appointed head coach of Azerbaijan’s national youth and junior women’s volleyball teams.

Axar.az reports, citing the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation, that Edman’s Turkish youth women’s national team won the European Championship in the 2011-2012 season and finished fifth at the 2012-2013 World Championship under his leadership.

He also coached Turkiye’s senior, second, youth and junior national teams at various times, winning the Balkan Championship and several titles at the Spring Cup tournament.

At club level, the coach worked as head coach of Eczacibashi, Galatasaray, VakifBank Gunes Sigorta and Sariyer Belediyespor. He led Eczacibashi to the European Confederation Cup (CEV Cup) title in the 1998-1999 season and to third place in the European Champions League in 1999-2000. Edman also won a bronze medal in the European Confederation Cup with Galatasaray and secured two Turkish league titles with Eczacibashi’s women’s team.

A graduate of Marmara University, Edman worked for many years as an instructor in coaching courses organized by the Turkish Volleyball Federation and served as a member of the Mini Volleyball and Women’s National Teams Technical Board.
