Baku hands over Judo World Championship flag to Astana

A handover ceremony for the International Judo Federation (IJF) flag has been held as part of the World Judo Championships for seniors in Baku.

Axar.az reports, citing the press service of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, that the ceremony took place at the National Gymnastics Arena.

The event was attended by Azerbaijan Judo Federation Vice President Elnur Mammadli, IJF Secretary General Lisa Allan, and Kazakhstan Judo Federation President Kuanyshbek Yessekeyev.

The IJF flag was lowered from its pole in the arena and brought to the main stage. Mammadli handed it to Allan, who then passed it to Yessekeyev, representing Kazakhstan, which will host the 2027 World Championships. The symbolic transfer marked the move of hosting duties from Baku to Astana.

At the end of the ceremony, a presentation video for the 2027 World Championships, to be held in the Kazakh capital, was shown.

It should be noted that Azerbaijani judokas finished the World Championships in Baku with seven medals: one gold, two silver and four bronze.
