Azerbaijan beat Austria 4-0 to reach judo last 16

Azerbaijan defeated Austria 4-0 in the mixed team event on the final day of the World Judo Championships in Baku, advancing to the round of 16.

Axar.az reports that the Azerbaijani team faced Austria in the round of 32 and secured victory with four consecutive wins.

Madina Kaisinova opened the scoring for Azerbaijan in the women’s +70 kg category, defeating Maria Hoellwart.

Zelim Kotsoev then beat Movli Borchashvili in the men’s +90 kg category to make it 2-0.

Khadija Gadeshova defeated Laura Kallinger in the 57 kg category, before Rashid Mammadaliyev overcame Firas Ben Saad in the men’s 73 kg category to seal Azerbaijan’s 4-0 victory.

Azerbaijan thus advanced to the round of 16 without needing to complete all the scheduled bouts. The team will face Japan in the next round.

Azerbaijan’s women’s squad includes Gultaj Mammadaliyeva and Khadija Gadeshova (both 57 kg), Sudaba Aghayeva and Hanna Zaytseva (both 70 kg), and Madina Kaisinova (+70 kg).

The men’s squad comprises Rashid Mammadaliyev and Ruslan Pashayev (both 73 kg), Zelim Tchkaev and Suleyman Shukurov (both 90 kg), and Zelim Kotsoev and Ushangi Kokauri (both +90 kg).

A total of 192 judoka from 18 countries competed in the team event on the eighth day of the championships at the National Gymnastics Arena.

Azerbaijan finished the individual events with a record seven medals. Ahmad Yusifov won gold in the 60 kg category, while Zelim Tchkaev (81 kg) and Ushangi Kokauri (+100 kg) claimed silver. Rashid Mammadaliyev (73 kg), Omar Rajabli (81 kg), Murad Fatayev (90 kg) and Kenan Nasibov (+100 kg) won bronze.
