Azerbaijani boxer Mahammadali Istamov has won gold at the European Under-17 Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro.
Axar.az reports that Istamov, competing in the 57kg category, defeated England’s John Elam 4-1 in the final.
With Istamov’s victory, Azerbaijan finished the championships with eight medals: two gold, three silver and three bronze.
Jamila Muradli (57kg) also won gold, while Hasrat Mammadov (46kg), Ismayil Nasirzade (52kg) and Sema Abbasova (66kg) claimed silver medals.
Qardash Rahimov (54kg), Hidayat Mammadov (70kg) and Khumar Jafarli (over 80kg) won bronze.
A total of 473 boxers — 314 boys and 159 girls — from 40 countries competed in the championships.
