To mark the 59th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster, Manchester United will hold a tribute at Old Trafford on Monday.

It has been 59 years since United suffered through the tragedy that saw eight of their players, and 23 people total, killed on the icy runway at Munich-Riem Airport on February 6, 1958.

A club statement read: "Manchester United's tributes to those who lost their lives in the Munich Air Disaster will continue on Monday, 6 February - the 59th anniversary of the tragedy.

"Fans will gather outside Old Trafford from 14:45 GMT on Monday by the Munich memorial, where poems will be recited before a minute's silence at 15:04 - the time of the fatal accident which claimed the lives of 23 people, including eight of the United players known as the Busby Babes.

"The club has worked with fan groups on the commemorations, which will also include readings from United's club chaplain, The Pride of Football song and a traditional rendition of The Flowers of Manchester.

"Along with the plans to mark the exact anniversary of the tragedy, there will also be a ceremony on Saturday 11 February at Old Trafford, before United take on Watford in the Premier League. Fans can meet for the tribute at the South East corner of the stadium from 13:45, prior to the 15:00 kick-off.

"Players will wear black armbands during the Watford match, while the families of those who died in the disaster will be welcomed as special guests of the club.

"Supporters who cannot attend either of the ceremonies at Old Trafford can pay tribute via social media, using the hashtags #BusbyBabes and #FlowersOfManchester."
