Soccer in Asia is about to make history. Chan Yuen-ting, Hong Kong's current Eastern Sports Club trainer, is about to become the first woman to lead an elite men's soccer team in a continental competition.
At 28 years of age, she's already led her club to win the Hong Kong Premiere League title and she will take her team to the Asian Champions League this Wednesday, for the first day of the group stage of the competition.
The bold and historic move is sure to come under scrutiny, especially since the young coach will be going up against the powerful Guangzhou Evergrande coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, a six-time champion in China and former World Cup winner. Even so, it's a challenge that Chan Yuen-ting is eager to take on, but she does so humbly and with determination. As she told the South China Morning Post:
"I am happy to meet Scolari. The Asian Champions League is a valuable opportunity for us to learn from opponents like Guangzhou and improve ourselves. We will try very hard to show our quality."
