Azerbaijan wins European Judo Championship in Estonia

Today, in Tallinn (Estonia), the mixed team competitions of the European Judo Championship among young athletes have concluded.

Axar.az, citing Idman.biz, reports that the Azerbaijan national team has won the tournament.

Our team began its campaign in the 1/8 finals against Bulgaria, defeating them 4:1. In the next match, our judokas faced Turkiye and won with a score of 4:0, securing a spot in the semifinals. There, the team defeated the Netherlands 4:2 and advanced to the final.

In the decisive match, our team faced France. Winning with a score of 4:3, our national team claimed the title of European Champion. In the final, Vusal Qalandarzade (73 kg), Alan Kotsoyev (100 kg), and Kenan Nasibov (+100 kg) won their bouts, while Fidan Alizade (57 kg), Parvana Abdullayeva (70 kg), and Nigar Suleymanova (+78 kg) were defeated. As a result, a decisive match was held to determine the winner, and Fidan Alizade defeated her opponent, securing the gold medal for our country.

It is noteworthy that our team won four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, taking first place in the overall standings of the individual European Championship. Vusal Qalandarzade (73 kg), Suleyman Shukurov (81 kg), Konul Aliyeva (48 kg), and Fidan Alizade (57 kg) won gold medals, Nizami Imranov (60 kg) and Aslan Kotsoev (90 kg) won silver, while Tuncay Shamil (90 kg) and Kenan Nasibov (+100 kg) won bronze medals.
