Azerbaijani sambo wrestler banned for 5 years over doping

Azerbaijani sambo wrestler Ramil Valiyev has been disqualified for 5 years for violating anti-doping rules.

Axar.az reports that this information was provided by the International Doping Test Agency (ITA).

It was noted that a sample taken from the athlete on September 18, 2022, tested positive.

He has been banned from all competitions according to Art. 2.1/2.2 - Presence/Use, and Art. 2.5 - Tampering. The penalty, which took effect on October 28, 2022, will end on October 27, 2027.

The decision has just been publicly announced through ITA's official website.

It is worth noting that R. Valiyev participated in the European Championship in Novi Sad, Czech Republic, from September 15-18, 2022, where he earned a silver medal in the 79 kg weight category in combat sambo. He was defeated by Zahid Gaydarov, a Russian representative of the International Sambo Federation, in the final.
