Former heavyweight boxing world champion, American George Foreman, has passed away at the age of 76.
Axar.az reports his family announced the news in a farewell message on his Instagram account.
"With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose," the post read.
Foreman was born in the U.S. in 1949 and competed in the heavyweight division from 1969 to 1977 and again from 1987 to 1997. He held championship titles from the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF), and World Boxing Organization (WBO). He was named "Fighter of the Year" twice by The Ring magazine (1973, 1976).
In 1994, at the age of 45, Foreman became the oldest world champion in boxing history. Although fellow American Bernard Hopkins later broke his record for the oldest world champion, Foreman remains the oldest heavyweight champion.
He also won a gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games. Over his professional career, Foreman fought 81 bouts, winning 76 (including 68 by knockout) and losing five.
