Darwin Nunez has entered the radar of Atletico Madrid—and he's doing so with serious momentum.
Axar.az reports, citing Mundo Deportivo, The 25-year-old Uruguayan striker is looking to leave Liverpool, and the prospect of wearing the red-and-white jersey is highly appealing to him.
He believes that under Diego Simeone’s guidance, he can rediscover his best form.
Liverpool signed the striker from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for €85 million, and his contract runs until 2028.
However, his performance at Anfield has fallen short of expectations.
His role has steadily diminished, and this season he has managed just seven goals and seven assists in 46 appearances, often playing a secondary role under new manager Arne Slot.
That’s why Nunez is seeking a fresh start. His agent has been offering him to various clubs, but given Atletico’s strong interest, the striker’s top priority is to join the Spanish side.
The club is currently exploring options to make the deal happen, with a loan including a mandatory purchase clause—based on certain conditions—being the preferred formula at the Metropolitano.
