Nikolay Krasnikov, a 20-time world champion in ice speedway racing, has died in a road accident in the Kushnarenkovo district of Bashkortostan.
Axar.az reports, citing russian media, this was announced by the Minister of Sports of Bashkortostan Ruslan Khabibov.
Repоrts say the crash involved a Lada Granta passenger car colliding with two oncoming trucks — a GAZelle and a SITRAK. The 40-year-old driver, Krasnikov, died at the scene.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
"This is terrible news. This morning, Nikolai Krasnikov, the eight-time world champion in the individual competition, 12—time world champion in the team competition, multiple champion and winner of the Russian Cup in motorcycle racing on ice, died," Khabibov wrote on his Telegram channel.
