Authorities in the US had no suspect in custody for the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk after hours of confused statements from officials about the killing at a university in Utah.
Axar.az informs, citing Reuters, “This shooting is still an active investigation,” the Utah Department of Public Safety said in a statement, adding it was working with the FBI, the Utah County Attorney’s office, the Utah County Sheriff’s office and local police departments.
Charlie Kirk, who rose from a teenage conservative campus activist to a top podcaster and ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed Wednesday during one of his trademark public appearances at a college in Utah. He was 31.
FBI Director Kash Patel said an unnamed person had been detained for questioning, then released. “Our investigation continues,” he wrote on social media.
US President Donald Trump ordered the flags at the White House to be lowered to half-mast in honor of Kirk.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
